GARDEN CALENDAR
Up to date advice on what to do in the garden this month!
By following our Garden Calendar below, you can always be sure that you are making the right choices in your garden.
Make sure you check back each month, as we are regularly updating this blog with relevant information.
Veges
Plant cabbage, cauli, broccoli, spinach, onion, leek, pak choi, celery, silverbeet and lettuce seedlings (protect lettuces from frost).
Plant early to main crop potatoes.
Sow peas.
Start seeds of tomato, capsicum, zucchini, melon and aubergine indoors.
Flowers
Plant polyanthus, pansies, primulas, cineraria, poppys, lobelia, kale, alyssum,ranunculus, nemesia, cyclamen, violas, livingstone daisies, statice, sweet peas,sweet william, geraniums, delphiniums, carnations, and aquilegia.
Feed spring flowering annuals with Novatec Nitrophoska.
Plant perennial hemerocallis, phlox, iris, delphiniums, hostas, astilbe & lupin
Plant gladioli, dahlias & begonias.
Indoor
Start to increase watering as the weather warms up.
New seasons grafted tomatoes are now in (for indoors or glasshouse only).
Start basil and chilli plants off inside.
Repot plants that have outgrown their containers.
Feed house plants.
General
Plant roses, general shrubs, deciduous trees, rhododendrons, camellias, fruit trees, daphne and boronia.
Plant strawberries.
Spray peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots & cherries with Nature's Way Fungus Spray for leaf curl.
New seasons waterlilies due in.
Sow new lawn and patch sow established lawn where required.
Feed established lawns with a high nitrogen lawn food & aerate if compacted.
Feed summer flowering shrubs and established roses and fruit trees.
Prune tips of fuchsias & pelargoniums to encourage bushiness.
Prune hibiscus.
Prune magnolias after flowering.
Feed camellias, azaleas & rhododendrons after flowering, with Tui Acid Food or similar.
Spray roses with Super Shield or Kiwicare Spectrum, and give a dressing of rose fertiliser.
Plant herbs such as coriander and tarragon.
